The International Conference on Systems Biology of Human Disease (SBHD) is an international transatlantic event and communication platform for scientific exchange, which has been initiated in 2008 by Peter Sorger and colleagues at Harvard Medical School and is located alternately in the US and Germany. Spreading and exchanging systems biology knowhow as well as giving a platform to connect and to interact with colleagues from different countries, is one of the major intentions of this meeting.
The focus of the SBDH are application-oriented systems biology approaches on mammalian cells, aiming to broaden our understanding of causes of human diseases and to develop new options for therapy. The meeting aims to engage scientists and clinicians from multiple universities and institutions in the application of systems biology approaches to therapeutic mechanisms and drug evaluation, with the ultimate goal of improving how existing treatments are personalized to individual patients. Achieving this requires a deep understanding of cell signaling networks and disease processes. While SBHD intends to provide an opportunity for systems biologists with diverse interests in model systems and organisms to exchange new ideas and research findings, it is also a pioneering meeting in systems medicine and systems pharmacology as a new tool to translate systems biology results into clinical practice. The use of AI is gaining ground in all areas of research. Accordingly, the topic of AI in health is also being increasingly intensified in the SBHD programme.
