Overview

HiDiH has had a long-standing interest in systems biology, -omics and big data analysis to gain better understanding into disease mechanisms and fundamental processes in molecular cell biology. We have been drivers of the International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC) since its inception. More recently, we have joined the worldwide effort to build a Human Cell Atlas by establishing the human pancreas cell atlas in health and disease. Here, we take particular advantage of our strong technology development arm in imaging and sequencing technology combined with our strengths in computational analysis of multi-dimensional data . Reaching out into the rich data world of clinical care, Roland Eils co-initiated the German Medical Informatics Initiative. Here, he has been the founder and coordinator of the HiGHmed consortium that integrates data from nine university medical centers in Germany with the goal to make data from clinical care and research interoperable across medical sectors and institutions. HiDiH integrates our research activities in fundamental life sciences and in innovative healthcare research at our two sites in Berlin and in Heidelberg.
