Data4Good - Trusted Health Data for Research, Care and Innovation

Health data are a key foundation for medical progress, innovative models of care, and the development of new digital health applications. At the same time, their use places high demands on data protection, security, transparency, and data sovereignty. Data4Good develops an approach that combines these requirements with the opportunities offered by a connected, data-driven healthcare system.
At its core is the development of a trusted, federated health data space in which data can be used across organizational boundaries without unnecessarily relinquishing control and data sovereignty. Secure data infrastructures, interoperability, and transparent access and usage rules are intended to make health data more accessible and usable for medical research, healthcare delivery, and innovation.
A particular focus lies on the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare. Federated AI approaches enable models to be developed and trained across distributed datasets without the need to centrally consolidate sensitive health data. In addition, participatory governance models and digital tools create new opportunities for citizens to participate in the control and responsible use of their data.
Data4Good thus brings together technological innovation, public-interest-oriented governance, and sustainable business models. In collaboration with partners from academia, healthcare, and technology, the project is developing structures that address both the requirements of the European Health Data Space (EHDS) and the specific conditions of the German healthcare system.
Funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), the project contributes to a secure, interoperable, and future-oriented European health data ecosystem. The goal is to establish a scalable model that strengthens trust in the use of health data while unlocking new potential for research, AI, and digital health innovation.
