ECHO-AF scores for predicting the presence of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation

The ECHO-AF scores were developed to predict the presence of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (pAF) using non-invasive medical history and echocardiographic parameters (Schmidt et al., Clin Res Cardiol 2020; Kallenberger et al., PLoS One 2016). The model scores might be applied as screening test to initiate further diagnostic investigations for validating the presence of pAF. In case, the scores exceed the defined threshold values, a patient might be selected for testing the presence of pAF by long-term ECG monitoring.

12-parameter score

To calculate the 12-parameter score from patient data, please replace the exemplary values.

Patient age in years
Aortic root diameter in mm
Left atrium diameter in mm
Left ventricular ESD in mm
TDI A' velocity in cm/s
Heart frequency in 1/min
Sleep apnea
Hyperlipidemia
Diabetes mellitus
Smoker
Beta-blocker intake
Catheter ablation
Score value S12
(pAF predicted, in case S12>58.35)

4-parameter score

To calculate the 4-parameter score from patient data, please replace the exemplary values.

Patient age in years
Aortic root diameter in mm
Left atrium diameter in mm
TDI A' velocity in cm/s
Score value S4
(pAF predicted, in case S4 >63.32)
